As 2007 draws to a close, I wish I could tell you that the people of Darfur will celebrate a peaceful New Year. But I can't.

Sudanese President Bashir is still blocking deployment of the agreed-upon peacekeeping force. And, despite their declarations of support for the people of Darfur, President Bush, Chinese President Hu, and other world leaders are allowing Bashir's delays to continue, prolonging the suffering in Darfur.

We cannot let the world look away from Darfur! This peacekeeping mission can help end the genocide, and we must make sure it's fully deployed in 2008.

This week has been a powerful example of our ability to make leaders take a stand for Darfur.

Thanks to the efforts of Save Darfur activists like you, Congress just took two important steps to help end the genocide: it agreed to fund the Darfur peacekeeping mission for the next fiscal year, and it enacted legislation to protect states' rights to divest from companies that help fund the genocide in Darfur.

Although these are important victories, our work is far from over.

The peacekeepers have not yet reached Darfur. We need your help to make sure they get there in 2008 and that they receive the diplomatic, financial, and technical assistance they need to succeed once they arrive.
