DOWSING: What? Who? Where? When? Why?

By Greg Storozuk, Professional Dowser

WHAT is dowsing? Ray Willey, in his book "Modern Dowsing" wrote back in 1976 that "Dowsing is the exercise of a human faculty which allows one to obtain information in some manner beyond the power and scope of the standard human senses."

From this definition it can be deduced that:

1) As a "human faculty" anyone can learn how to dowse. It our birthright, a gift which we all possess. All that's required for it's development is an active interest and practice, the same as learning any other skill.

2) "...which allows one to obtain information". It has long been assumed that the only purpose of dowsing was to locate underground water. Although this is certainly still the case, "obtaining information" goes far beyond the search only for water. Willey contiued on with his definition with some amplification..."We aren't just talking about making locations on the ground. We are talking abot pertinent facts that have a bearing on the problem which the dowser is trying to solve, as well as the actual finding of locations." So finding water is only one use of dowsing's many applications. In essence, dowsing is a form of human communication with virtually everything that's "out there". If it exists - it's 'dowsable'.

3) "...in some manner beyond the power and scope of the standard human senses."
Although dowsing is ideed still considered a scientific mystery, is that any reason to curtail it's use? Science still does not have an adequate definition or understanding of electricity or magnetism. Does that mean we should immediately shut down all our power plants and throw away our car keys? Of course not. "If it works - use it." The same can be said for dowsing. "It works - use it." Science has no right to ignore such a powerful and useful capability of the human mind as the dowsing ability merely because it's not scientifically understood.

WHO can dowse?

As mentioned above, anyone can learn to dowse since everyone has the capability. The question is, as with learning any skill, one of the three "D's" - Desire, Dedication and Determination. Basically, you get out of it what you put into it.

There are countless applications of the dowsing skill with each containing it's own unique brand of understanding. Locating water for example, would require at least a passing knowledge of being able to accurately determine the waters rate of flow, depth, recovery volume and potability. Add to the mix things like temperature, (geothermal water), clay, (a dowsers nemesis), and contaminating factors and you can easily see that this is not a quickly learned skill. Yet, at it's root, dowsing is a very simple language.

As I'm fond of saying..."Dowsing is simple. It's not easy, but it's simple."
To be continued..

RULES FOR BEING HUMAN by Ann Landers

THE RULES FOR BEING HUMAN

YOU WILL RECEIVE A BODY. You may like it or hate it, but it will be yours for as long as you live. How you take care of it or fail to take care of it can make an enormous difference in the quality of your life.

YOU WILL LEARN LESSONS. You are enrolled in a full-time, informal school called Life. Each day, you will be presented with opportunities to learn what you need to know. The lessons presented are often completely different from those you THINK you need.

THERE ARE NO MISTAKES, ONLY LESSONS. Growth is a process of trial, error and experimentation. You can learn as much from failure as you can from success. Maybe more.

A LESSON IS REPEATED UNTIL IT IS LEARNED. A lesson will be presented to you in various forms until you have learned it. When you have learned it (as evidenced by a change in your attitude and ultimately your behavior), then you can go on to the next lesson.

LEARNING LESSONS DOES NOT END. There is no stage of life that does not contain some lessons. As long as you live there will be something to learn.

"THERE" IS NO BETTER THAN "HERE." When your "there" has become a "here," you will simply discover another "there" that will again look better than your "here." Don't be fooled by believing that the unattainable is better than what you have.

OTHERS ARE MERELY MIRRORS OF YOU. You cannot love or hate something about another person unless it reflects something you love or hate about yourself. When tempted to criticize others, ask yourself why you feel so strongly.

WHAT YOU MAKE OF YOUR LIFE IS UP TO YOU. You have the tools and resources you need. What you create with those tools and resources is up to you. Remember that through desire, goal setting and unflagging effort you can have anything you want. Persistence is the key to success.

THE ANSWERS LIE INSIDE YOU. The solutions to all of life's problems lie within your grasp. All you need to do is ask, look, listen and trust.

YOU WILL FORGET ALL THIS. Unless you consistently stay focused on the goals you have set for yourself, everything you've just read won't mean a thing.

Science of Energy Medicine by Anita Boehm

Science of Energy Medicine

According to Wikipedia, “Energy medicine is a comprehensive term for practices that include, but are not limited to: acupuncture and acupressure, laser therapy, light therapy, magnetic therapy, qi gong, energy psychology, Reiki, Johrei, Healing Touch, Therapeutic Touch, Touch for Health, Applied Kinesiology, Emotional Freedom Techniques, NAET, Tapas Acupressure Technique, Brennan Energy Science, Eden Energy Medicine, distant healing, intuitive medicine, and intercessory prayer.”

Techniques that are used to manipulate energy in the body are derived from ancient healing arts found in numerous cultures, races, and religions. This “life force energy“ is called qi or chi by the Chinese, ki by the Japanese, baraka by the Sufi’s, light by the Christians, ka by ancient Egyptians, prana by Hindus, and ho’omana (which, literally, means “keeper of balance” and making of energy) by the ancient Hawaiian kahunas (experts in Huna).

In many forms of medicine that originated in the East, this universal life energy is viewed as the flow of energy that sustains life itself. It is believed that dis-ease occurs when this vital energy is out of balance, and healing is enhanced when balance is restored. The idea of using energy to diagnose and heal is also used in Western medicine in the form of electrocardiograms and electroencephalograms to record the electrical energy of the heart and brain, respectively. Other forms of Western medicine’s use of energy include but are not limited to: electrical stimulation to suppress pain, electromagnetic fields to help fractured bones heal, and sound waves to heal bone outgrowths and dissolve kidney stones.

The scientific world is relatively new in their understanding in comparison to what the metaphysical and spiritual teachers have known for centuries – that the universe is not composed of matter; but rather a kind of force that has been referred to as “energy”. Objects perceived by our physical senses that appear separate to us as solid matter (i.e., book, table, chair, etc.) are really comprised of particles that vibrate at different speeds and it is the speed that holds the pattern of their physical form. This is a very simplistic explanation of these complex interactions, but basically, the world of subatomic particles is an inseparable network of interactions.

According to Tamisha Sabrina of The UK Reiki Federation - Research & Development, “Independent research by Dr. Robert Becker and Dr. John Zimmerman during the 1980's investigated what happens whilst people practice therapies like Reiki. They found that not only do the brain wave patterns of practitioner and receiver become synchronized in the alpha state, characteristic of deep relaxation and meditation, but they pulse in unison with the earth's magnetic field, known as the Schuman Resonance. During these moments, the biomagnetic field of the practitioner’s hands is at least 1000 times greater than normal, and not as a result of internal body current. Toni Bunnell (1997) suggests that the linking of energy fields between practitioner and earth allows the practitioner to draw on the 'infinite energy source' or 'universal energy field' via the Schuman Resonance. Prof. Paul Davies and Dr. John Gribben in The Matter Myth (1991), discuss the quantum physics view of a 'living universe' in which everything is connected in a 'living web of interdependence'. All of this supports the subjective experience of 'oneness' and expanded consciousness related by those who regularly receive or self-treat with Reiki.”
“Zimmerman (1990) in the USA and Seto (1992) in Japan further investigated the large pulsating biomagnetic field that is emitted from the hands of energy practitioners whilst they work. They discovered that the pulses are in the same frequencies as brain waves, and sweep up and down from 0.3 - 30 Hz, focusing mostly in 7 - 8 Hz, alpha state. Independent medical research has shown that this range of frequencies will stimulate healing in the body, with specific frequencies being suitable for different tissues. For example, 2 Hz encourages nerve regeneration, 7Hz bone growth, 10Hz ligament mending, and 15 Hz capillary formation.”

In his book entitled, “Energy Medicine – The Scientific Basis” (published in 2000 by Harcourt Brace/Churchill Livingstone, Edinburgh), James L. Oschman Ph.D. (degrees in biophysics and biology from the University of Pittsburgh) also cites the above research investigations. Additionally, in an interview with William Lee Rand (a reprinted article from the Reiki News Magazine, Vol. One, Issue Three, Winter 2002), Oschman further discusses how Zimmerman “found that this pulsing field is produced by the of hands of practitioners of Therapeutic Touch and Healing Touch, but non-practitioners do not produce such signals.” Oschman also states, “The basic physics of induction is important because it helps explain some of the effects of Reiki, laying on of hands, and other hands-on and hands-off therapies. In essence, the biomagnetic fields produced by a practitioner’s hands can induce current flows in the tissues and cells of the individuals who are in close proximity.”

In the same referenced interview above, Oschman addresses the potential of distance healing -- an aspect of Reiki healing energy. Oschman states, “There are several phenomena in physics that could mediate healing at a distance. For example, scalar waves have the extraordinary property of affecting the structure of space everywhere, instantaneously. Scalar waves therefore do not have a velocity as such, and their effects do not diminish with distance. Now that there is growing evidence for healing at a distance, as well as the benefits of prayer, the scalar wave is being reexamined for its possible role in mediating such phenomena. This is important because many of the complimentary therapies are discovering the healing work that can be done locally can also be done at a distance.”

As conceptual ideas of non-locality become addressed, “energy medicine” begins to take on the quantum physics viewpoint of a “'living universe' in which everything is connected in a 'living web of interdependence'.” During an interview entitled, “A Romp Through the Quantum Field” (published in Awareness Magazine Sep/Oct issue 2006), Dr. Bruce Lipton (a renowned cellular biologist, author of the book entitled, The Biology of Belief and many other publications) states, “Your thoughts are not contained in your head — they are a part of the Quantum Field.” Lipton continues, “When playing through your nervous system, the thoughts generate a vibratory field similar to that of a tuning fork. Thought vibrations interact and entangle with harmonically-resonant structures in the Field. Simply, we activate and bring into our lives the things that we think about the most.” In part 2 of the interview (Awareness Magazine Nov/Dec issue 2006), Lipton describes a new science called epigenetics that is a “new perspective of human biology that does not view the body as just a mechanical device, but rather, incorporates the role of a mind and spirit. This breakthrough is fundamental in all healing because it recognizes that when we change our perception or beliefs we send totally different messages to our cells, causing a reprogramming of their expression.”

To summarize the above-quoted scientists and put together this collective information into a succinct and simple way of describing the important aspects of energy medicine, it is important to understand that energy fields exist in and around our physical bodies. Additionally, we have the power within to heal ourselves, but our physical and emotional experiences create patterns that are difficult to alter. Practitioners of energy medicine assist in mapping the way for clients to become aware of energy pulses and patterns that are stored in the body that either have created dis-ease or have the potential to create physical problems -- before they become completely manifested. Through this process, distorted energy fields can become known and balanced to help clients shift their energy field as well as their perceptions about their state of being. To paraphrase Dr.Bruce Lipton (from the conference entitled, Bodies of Earth/Cells of God [Santa Fe, NM, Nov. 2004]), energy healing works because it is in alignment with the way nature works.

SAVE DARFUR--WEBSITE CORRECTION

Ok, the previous website is incorrect. The correct one is Colleen Connors Save Darfur Coalition, go to the 2nd item on the page, click on it, & it'll bring up the right page. On the right side, scroll down to where it says "sign the petition" and go for it. Sorry about that!

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus--Yes, YOU can make a difference

Today I'm listening to my heart and it's telling me to talk about Darfur. I think that sometimes we don't feel like we CAN make a difference on this planet, but we can. All my life I've been an advocate/activist for animal rights, sending hundreds of letters, signing tons of petitions in an attempt to make a difference for the animals--getting the steel jaw trap banned, stopping laboratory testing on animals & supporting great organizations like PETA. Well, today's all about Darfur. By just taking a minute or two of your time today, you CAN make a difference just by going to Colleen Connors' website which is info@savedarfur.org and just sign your name to the letter to President Bush urging him to uphold the U.S.' commitment to ensure the success of the newly authorized Darfur peacekeeping mission. And if your heart tells you to support the cause monetarily, you can do that, too. On Sept 5, she was 50,736 away from her goal. Yes, Virginia, YOU can make a difference today, right this very minute & feel good about it. THANKS!

NEWS BLEEPS OF WHAT WE KNOW (OR NOT)

According to Time Magazine: 37% of Americans believe places can be haunted

28% of Americans believe it is possible to influence the physical world through the mind alone

25% of Americans believe that some UFOs are probably spaceships from other worlds

41% of Americans believe that ancient advanced civilizations like Atlantis once existed

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT: It takes a national average 1.7 pounds of carbon dioxide pollution to make one kilowatt of electrical power.

The average American makes about 3.5 pounds of trash each day.

About one third of what an average American throws out is packaging.

About 90% of the energy used in lighting standard (incandescent) light bulb is lost to heat.

Colorado Springs area has no capacity for recycling glass. So all the glass is just thrown into the landfills.

Big trees can reduce the sun's radiation effect by 70 to 90%. Leaf evapotranspiration accounts for 70 to 80% of trees' cooling benefit.

SO LET'S SAVE THOSE TREES!!!!

What is Metaphysics?

Metaphysics is a philosophy about the underlying nature of all things. It concerns questions about being. With some exceptions, metaphysical questions cannot be answered by science, nor can its theories be proved or disproved. Examples of metaphysical questions might include, "What is the meaning of life?" "Why do we exist?" "Is there a God?" "Is there a spirit realm?"

Metaphysics is not a science. Science deals with facts, tangible objects and forces, as well as anything that can be measured, tested, or demonstrated. But sometimes metaphysical theories have been scientifically proven, at which point they no longer belong in the realm of metaphysics. Just as an example: We know that everything is made up of tiny particles called atoms, but while this theory has been around for some time, there was no proof until we started inventing instruments that allowed us to see this fact for ourselves.

Although metaphysics and religions often explore more or less the same concepts and ideas, metaphysics is not religious. In fact, metaphysics often conflicts with religion. Metaphysics is based on reasoning, while religion is more about faith. Religions are defined by beliefs and teachings that stay or less the same. If these beliefs change a great deal, the religion itself would be compromised.

Theists and atheists alike have scorned metaphysics as a waste of time. Yet it is in mankind's nature to ask deep questions that may never be answered, which is what metaphysics is all about. In that way, metaphysics is perhaps the most human of all philosophies.

MY RESIGNATION from Enlightened Woman May/June 2003

MY RESIGNATION

I am hereby officially tendering my resignation as an ADULT.

I have decided I would like to accept the responsibilities of an 8 year-old again. I want to go to McDonalds and think that it's a four-star restaurant. I want to sail sticks across a fresh mud puddle and make a sidewalk with rocks.

I want to think M&M's are better than money because you can eat them. I want to drink kool-aid, eat lemonheads and red hots with my friends.

I don't want to change clothes because I got a little dirty and my friends didn't care cause they were even dirtier than me. I want to enjoy every day like it's summer vacation.

I want to return to a time when life was simple. When all you knew were colors, multiplication tables, and TV show theme songs, but that didn't bother you, because you didn't know what you didn't know and you didn't care.

All you knew was to be happy because you were blissfully unaware of all the things that should make you worried or upset.

I want to think the world is fair. That everyone is honest and good. I want to believe that anything is possible. I want to be oblivious to the complexities of life and be overly excited by the little things again, like a a new hot wheel car every Saturday.

I want to live simple again. I don't want my day to consist of computer crashes, mountains of paperwork, depressing news, how to survive more illness, and loss of loved ones.

I want to believe in the power of smiles, hugs, a kind word, truth, justice, peace, dreams, the imagination and mankind. I want to "Dream of Jeannie". I want to go to "Fantasy Island" and take a trip on "The Love Boat". I want to be in the Roller Derby and actually believe the Three Stooges are real.

So....here's my checkbook and my car-keys, my credit card bills and my 401K statements, my pager, my cellphone, my palm pilot, my fax machine and my dvd player and last but not least my mortgage book.

I am officially resigning from adulthood. And if you want to discuss this further, you'll have to catch me first...cause...
