SOCRATES CAFE THIS SATURDAY MORNING

Hello Everyone. Week before last at Lakewood Socrates Cafe we went around the table and everyone was given a chance to relate one of their own "mind blowing experiences." Dare I say that everyone enjoyed the revelations and even learned something from them? There was undoubtedly some skepticism, but the tendency to judge was suppressed by everyone in the true spirit of the Socrates Cafe. Each presenter may or may not have been locked into one or more of life's myriad illusions. We do not judge this. We only hope that the light of knowledge may illuminate someone somewhere, somehow. As a great sage once said "you will see it when you believe it" or "when the student is ready the teacher will appear." To which I add my own not too bright observation, "To an ignorant man even the wisest man may look foolish."

We welcome into the group two new members, Fran and Richard Rew. The Rews shared with us an interesting activity that they created. I see it as similar to a 'Talk and Walk' invented by the Society for Philosophical Inquiry. This may be an over-simplification on my part. The Rews seem to be taking the idea much further. They have created a web site explaining it for those of you who are interested: http://www.topictalkwalks.com. A basic tenant behind their concept (discussed at our last meeting) is that the brain is stimulated much more when exercising then when sitting. Again, I over-simplify. You are invited to participate in their topic talk walks and perhaps you might report back to the rest of us? We thank the Rews for their gift to us.

This coming week at the Cafe the topic of discussion will be "Unused Personal Power." This topic does not just encompass people you know who have God given brains but fail to use them. Although you are welcome to expound on that idea, Unused Personal Power means much more and we will delve into it. So, come join us and reveal to us some power that you have discovered and used. Or, perhaps you will learn from our discussion a power that has been lying dormant and forgotten within yourself. Who can predict what the universe will reveal.

The Lakewood Socrates Cafe is limited only by the number of active members and their ideas. So, come all ye lovers of ideas. I am looking forward to seeing all of you this Saturday, April 5th, between 10am and 12noon at the Full Moon Bookstore.

Sincerely, Ray Rura
